Need for Speed III: Hot Pursuit Page 2
Exotic cars
NFS III: Hot Pursuit offers the most exotic cars I have ever seen in a race game. EA has 'again' managed to get some of of hottest cars into their game. Let's see. What do we have? The Aston Martin, the Jaquar XK, the Lamborghini Diablo SV, the Ferrari 355 F1 Spider, Corvette C5 and plenty more. Even the Mercedes CLK-GTR and the SL6OO are in it. Great! Most of us will never get our hands on such a car and we would die to drive one of those but in this game you can race them all! At speeds that exceeds the 300 Km/h. Also, some cars and tracks needs to be unlocked. Even, you can win some bonus cars as well. The cars are extremely highly detailed when 3D-acceleration is enabled and EA has included some nice options. For example, you can enable the 'chrome' of your car which is just magnificent! Everything shines and you will see reflections of the scenery in the paint's car. Gorgeous! EA has done a very fine job. There are a lot of fine-tuning options for your car which gives you the ability to setup your car for your own needs. Experience a bit and suit your needs. The only thing I disliked a lot is the fact that there is NO real damage to your car! Yes, even when you hit the barrier or scrape a wall that the sparks are flying off your fender, your car is still as shiny as it was when you start the race. A pity, but thats not really EA's fault. No, its really the fault of those automobile makers because they didn't allow EA to make damage models of their cars images. Come on, we all know that it is just a game and I'm sure that those automobile guys do know that when you hit a wall at 250 Km/h, you car can't be as shiny as it was 1 minute ago. Anyway, the cars do look good. :)
This game also offers you very detailed tracks. These must be the gorgeous tracks I have ever seen. Truly, this game has it all. There are many tracks available the first time you play and some also needs to be unlocked. The scenery used in NFS III is brilliantly drawn. Better then the original and absolutely better then the second version of NFS. Some of the tracks that you can choose the first time are basicly the same but then you can race a snowy track. There is also a lot of information included on the track when you click on it. It also explains the hard pieces of the track and you can enable night driving, wether, etc ...
Graphics
So, how are graphics in this racing game? To tell you the truth, the NFS team of EA have done an excellent job with this title! I'm serious! Need For Speed III offers the best graphics I have ever seen in any racing title. It has 2 different ways to render the game. There is the usual software renderer which is just normal svga without any 3D-accelerated functions. If you compare this mode to the 3D mode, and you don't have an 3D-accelerator yet, then you know how late it really is. It's buy-a-3d-card time now :).
Indeed, just take a look at the screenshots below and you will clearly see the difference.
