Need for Speed III: Hot Pursuit Page 3
Graphics (continue)
The next pair of screenshots are rendered with 3D-acceleration enabled. You can clearly see the difference between these shots and the previous ones.
Voodoo Graphics mode (3DFX), with full 3D-acceleration
Also when you decide to run the game in 'sofware renderer' mode, you gotto have a very fast PC. I'm not talking about a 200 MMX, no, a minimum of a Pentium II (or similar like the K6 2) with a Mhz of 266 and much ram will run this baby at a decent speed. The objects, cars and the whole scenery isn't that beautifull either. Just buy that 3d-card and then you will see the real beauty of a game that has 3D support. For the gamers that own such a card like the Voodoo Graphics series, this is a game that will run even on a P166 MMX with 64 Ram. The 3D graphics are awesome!! Really, the scenery is very fluid and the cars, oh my god, the cars are gorgeous. EA has putted much work to the scenery and cars here and you surely do notice that too. In fact, like I mentioned this earlier, there are also some sweet 3D options included. Like enabling the car chrome, this feature is absolutely fabulous! It adds a shiny look to your car's paint and also reflects the scenery into your cars windows. Brilliant!
Resolutions go from 320x240 through 1024x768 and this give everyone to opportunity to run it at a decent game. With all the detail levels that they have included into this version, almost every system should be able to run it. The lighting effects used in this game are the best I've ever seen. There are also different camera modes available. From behind the car (chase cam) or above it, you name it , NFS III: Hot Pursuit, has it all. I like more the first person view because the action is more intense then any other cam angle. A replay mode is also available and different camera angles can be used to get the perfect view of your car.
Sound effects and Music
For the audio there are several options included. You can choose between Mono, Stereo and of course those who can afford it, the Dolby Surround mode. The menu and in-game music can be selected very easy to whatever track you like. The sound effects have some very nice touches. From scraping metal and spinning tires, its all very realistic. In NFS III there are 2 different music modes. First there is the Techno tracks. Very fast action moving that really suits the game. The other is more Rock orientated and is rather for people that like to rock hard. Of course every track has it own style but you can change that to your personal needs. Excellent.
Speedy Multiplayer
Need For Speed III: Hot Pursuit also has Multiplayer support. It supports IPX Lan, TCP (Internet), modem and serial. Peer-to-Peer and client-server methods are supported. Its very fun to play against a friend or to play on the Net. Very addictive too so watch out. The last thing but not the least is something what I greatly appreciated from EA. They have included a option into this game which will make the gamers even more happier (if you have access to the internet). You can by going to their website, download new cars and import them into the game. Even gamers like you and me have already build their own cars so that you can import them aswell. Basically, the fun never stops in NFS 3!
Conclusion
Well, do I have to say more about this title? I don't think so. After you have read this entire long review you will get the impression that I loved playing EA's Need for Speed III: Hot Pursuit. And you're damn right! Excuse me for my language but this game is one of the best, no THE best racing game I have ever played! It has the looks, it has that arcade touch, it has exciting music and audio effects ... it has it all. I must truly congratulate the EA NFS team on this third serie of their racing game because it is a KILLER! If you are looking for a very fast and exciting racing game, don't look any further because this game should be yours.
Need for Speed III: Hot Pursuit is still one of my favourites and that will not change by any other title. It has something special, only NFS series has that and I can't really describe what it is but like I said before, the fun never stops in NFS III. Have fun!
