Vampire: The Masquerade - Redemption
(based on patch v1.1)
Page 3

Enemy AI

The enemy AI is not of that type that it will analyse your tactics and start to scare you with it's cleverness.
Enemies will happily fire spells into the back of their comrades, killing them while you just hide behind them and do some left-clicking like it really makes a difference.
Fights are just that : activating some disciplines and keeping to left-click on your enemy. To make things even worse it doesn't seem that you are doing any damage : I think Christof is half blind because 80 % of the time he misses. I now that this has to do with the accuracy of the weapons used, but the difference between 0 % and 50 % is not convincing enough. So there you are standing in front of some enemies hitting nothing but air, all while the others are trying to not get in your way, failing miserably in doing so and getting slaughtered like some newbie-Vampire-killing machines.

Combined with the fact that this game can't be more linear I must say I'm dissappointed.
Nihilistic could have made a masterpiece out of this license. As it stands now they certainly have the pieces, but in the wrong order and it's a shame I can only recommend it to those who really want to put an effort into it and be patient as the game evolves patch by patch.

Storytelling mode

What I have discussed here applies to the Single player story only.
VTMR also incorporates a revolutionary multiplayer mode much like a classic RPG. People can write their own stories and host them on the Net acting as the storyteller or dungeon master, guiding the others through their own World of Darkness campaign. It would be unfair to write something about it as have not yet played such a game.
I most point out though that this mode has already received critical acclaim from players worldwide and is considered as the better part of this package. For those who want to check it out I suggest you visit the Nihilistic messageboard where messages about Storytelling campaigns are regularly posted.

Conclusion

Manual:
Good enough; nice intro story; good explanation of disciplines.

SoundFX / Music:
Very beautiful music and good sound throughout.

Graphics:
Breathtaking and unsurpassed for this type of game.

Gameplay:
Very bad AI and boring combat sequences hinder the interesting story and setting.
It plays too much like Diablo 1 & 2 but those are actually better.
