Rollcage Page 2
Pedal to the Metal
The use of power-ups is recommended, but not essential. You can of course try to end first by driving as fast as hell. What I mean with as fast as hell, well, what to think about speeds exceeding 500 km/hour! (dear readers: don't try this at home :) ) Those little cars have reached in no time a speed around 400 km/hour, and with a power-up like the speed burst, 500 km/hour is no problem. But, there IS a problem! If you're pc has the same horses under the bonnet as the Rollcagers, then you're in for a ride! The game will run so fast, you're car will be virtually incontrollable. Use the brake a bit too much and there you go. A great spin and nine chances to ten your car is wrong directed. Another time the car will drive up the walls, until you step on the brake - long enough.
The control over the car is the most annoying thing in the game. The game controls are fine, but once your car has started his rodeo, your only chance is to brake. Several times I encountered the fact, that I was racing first to the finish, when at the last part of the track my car hit a little rock and my car was on the loose. Only after some time I could control it again, but don't you think that I ended first.
Cutting Edge graphics
Visually, Rollcage is on the cutting edge. The lighting and effects for the weapons fire take full advantage of the latest crop of 3D accelerators. From the electrical bursts of the ice ray to the friction sparks of the cars scraping against walls and each other, the effects are spectacularly rendered. Clouds of smoke and debris often blur your vision, and the explosions of the buildings collapsing light up the entire landscape. The environments are also beautiful -they range from barren terrain that looks almost like it's on a deserted moon to skyscraper-packed urban skylines. There are even varying weather effects like rain that change the driving experience. All the textures are smooth and detailed, providing a rich background that looks as good when you're moving slowly as when you are racing by at top speed. My vocabulary is too small to use enough superlatives for these graphics, so why don't you take a close look at the screenshots.
Sound and Music
From the "crump" of collapsing buildings to the whine of the car's rocket engines, the sound in Rollcage is fantastic. The soundtrack provides a solid base to the action that stays in the background where it belongs. The weapons effects are great missiles whoosh by, lightning crackles, and warp fields roar as they suck you in. And if your sound card supports four-speaker output then you're in for a real treat!Rollcage takes advantage of the new breed of 3D audio, providing valuable cues to the positions of your opponents. Rollcage is really heavy on music, whereby the songs are made by Fatboy Slim, EZ Rollers and Aphrodite.
Multiplayer
The full suite of connection options are supported here, including TCP/IP and serial connections, and split-screen play is available for up to four (yep, four!) players on a single system. The real problem is finding opponents: If you don't have a clan of friends with a copy of Rollcage, you're not gonna play too much. Because Rollcage isn't supported on services like Mplayer, HEAT, or the Internet Gaming Zone, you don't have the opportunity to compete against any other guys (or girls ;)).
Conclusion
Everyone who likes to play non-simulation race games, or even someone who has never played before an arcade game, this is definitly a must-have.
Rollcage from developr "Attention To Detail" offers Fast accelerating action, unseen graphics and great sound and music! I'm sure you will love this game!
