Descent
Freespace: The Great War

Page 2

Easy controls, right?

Controlling your ship is very easy. Even my 6 year old niece would have no problem at all. If you have a decent joystick, like one of those nasty Sidewinder ones or even a Thrustmaster type, you are set to kick some serious ass. On those alien brothers I mean.
If you just have a 3 or 4 button joystick, you are in trouble. Your keyboard will be used quite a lot and sometimes you wish you get more hands then just the 2 you have now.
I used the Sidewinder 3D Pro, with about 8 buttons and it works great.

Freespace has excellent gameplay thou. Probably has the best space battles then any other game, I still like X-wing and Tie-fighter one of the greatest space sims, has. It is a pity that the game is too short. I bet it would take you just 1 or 2 days before you have finished it. Indeed, Freespace just have about 36 missions, which 5 are training missions. So, 31 missions. Ofcourse, training first before you go to the more itense action but more missions included would be highly appreciated.
The action isn't repetitive at all and every mission has other objectives that you have to complete.

Freespace's Multiplayer. Any good?

Yes, it does have multiplayer modes available which are more entertaining then the single player mode. Quite logical because it is always more fun to play against other humans like yourself then against some cpu. Ain't that a fact? ;).
But beware the multiplayer mode of Descent. Freespace: the great war is a bit buggy. Some strange errors will pop up. Sometimes.

Anyway, the moment I am writing this, I pretty sure that Interplay has already released a patch for this game. Go check their page for more updated information concerning this game. Also, I heard that they are planning to release more missions , not in a stand alone version but more like a mission disk.

Conclusion

Descent. Freespace: The Great War from Interplay is an excellent space action game that I definitely recommend.
If you like WCP or the X-wing/Tie Fighter games, you will absolutely adore this game. It is addictive, a bit short thou but it is very entertaining.
Don't we all want a game that is fun, fun, fun! I should suggest, go get it now!
