Give me more!!

With this kind of gameplay it can't go wrong, but guess what : it gets even better !
Let's start with the enemy AI. In one word : excellent. Enemies will react very realistically to their surroundings. If you run around carrying weapons when it's not necessary, then prepare for some action.
If you're wanted by the police, they will scout out very actively for you. You killed some one and didn't remove the body ? Get out of there very quickly or hide the body. All these little touches make for a very satisfying gaming experience.

Sound and music are equally very well done, using 3D sound to great effect.
The voice-acting must be one of the best in any game today. Especially J.C. has a very cool voice and some of the quotes in the game are hilarious.
Thumbs UP !!

Any downsides?

Well yes, two actually. The first being the graphics of the weapons. They look a bit dull, really.
The silenced pistol looks more like a stapler and the assault rifle looks very short and round.
Another weak point about the weapons are the upgrades : they feel to weak or not necessary. The laser dot for instance is very cool, but I have never used it that much. I think it's all about peronal taste.

There is however a very major downside and that's the game engine. Deus Ex uses a modified Unreal engine. The Unreal engine was written for the Glide API (3dFX cards) and has very poor performance in Direct3D.
If you do not have a 3dFX card, you'll probably wonder if Deus Ex will run well enough ? Well, I have used both a TNT2 Ultra and a GTS2 and it worked great (albeit with the modified Direct3D driver installed).
However it seems that for many people with these same chipsets it doesn't work at all. It's very strange and I can't think of a reason for it, but the demo should give an answer to the question "will it run ?".

Another thing I would like to warn about is the size of the savegames.
A save of 25+ Mb is very common, so having 10 saves chucked away means having the need for 250 Mb and more of spare hard drive space PLUS the room for a swap file ! I really recommend 128 Mb RAM for this game as it will save you from a lot of frustration in some of the bigger maps later on in the game.

Conclusion

Deus Ex's manual is Jewel case size for the European version which means that only the necessary information is discussed, but for this game it doesn't matter as that leaves more for you to discover :-)
It's graphics are a bit dark and sometimes blocky, but all in all very attractive.
The soundtrack is very atmospheric throughout the entire game and the voice acting is top notch. Some of the weapon effects could have done with some 'oomph', though.

So, what else can I tell you besides that Deus Ex from developer 'Ion Storm' and published by 'Eidos Interactive' is the most satisfying game ever !
You'll discover something new everytime you play. No multiplay however, but does it need that ?

In other words, this game is as good as Valve's 'Half Life' and when you read something like this ... it definitely means something, right?
