Baldur's Gate

Graphics and Sound

Hold it right there buster, put that Voodoo2 SLI right back in the closet.
Baldur's Gate does not support any kind of 3D accelerator card. Nevertheless, the graphics are good I must say, they are rendered unlike Diablo's tiled graphics, so everything is unique and very beautiful.
The only thing that irritates me is that you can't change the resolution, and that's really shitty because I find the playing area on the screen too small.
The only graphics option you have is the color debt, which you can set to 16bit, 24bit and 32bit (not that you really notice the difference though). But the graphics in general are good.
The sound. Nothing special here, it's not bad, except maybe 1 remark. They could have included more speech, with a lot of NPCs it's text only and that irritates me, more speech would draw you more into the game I think.
The music isn't bad either, except that after a while it does get on the nerves slightly, especially if the combat takes a while (combat music theme is irritating if you hear it over and over again).

An easy navigate system?

You control your "character" with the mouse, click wherever you want to go and ... oh joy, your alter-ego goes there, isn't that fun ? :)
You can use shortcut keys on the keyboard if you want, but because of the pausing nature of the game not really necessary, just handy.
That's basically it when it comes down to controls.

Installation and Multiplayer

Well here you have lots of options really. You can put as many of the game data on your hard disk as you want, going from a minimum 313Mb to a whopping 2597Mb.

I have to admit, this is a bit of a disappointment. It's obviously not Baldur's Gate's strongest side.
Although I have to give Bioware credit for putting it in, it's not really their fault, this is just a singleplayer-only sort of game. It is what the manual calls an asynchronous game, which means that if you look at the different computer screens at the same time, you might not see the same happening, but it always leads to the same result (I just find this plain weird :)).
The things that make multiplayer irritating are for example: whenever one player start talking to an NPC, the other, NO MATTER where he is, gets warped there to follow the conversation and can't do anything while the conversation is in progress.
This is DAMN irritating, and it's the same story with a lot of events. You can't buy stuff when the other player is not around also.
All these small things make multiplayer no fun.

Conclusion?

The moment you've all been waiting for.
Well, let me barge right in, Bioware's Baldur's Gate is fun :). But (now comes the not-so-bad part) it's not without its flaws.

Something I haven't addressed yet is that, according to me, by introducing real time combat, Bioware wanted to attract non-RPG-fans to the game aswell, and they have succeeded in doing so, BUT it might have been a good idea to include a simple mode for the non-RPG-players.
At some places it's really hard and a bit confusing for people who haven't played the original D&D. It's not an insuperable problem though.
In the end, Baldur's Gate just rocks for any RPG fanatic!
