Julian Widdows / Rage Software Page 3
- PlayDevil.com: So, the difference between 16- and 32-bit rendering is enormously if you compare them both. Some gamers are saying that a game looks better with 32-bit rendering but others still want 16-bit rendering because 'they' don't see ANYTHING new! What's your opinion on this matter?
Julian: Well, it depends whether you mean 32-bit rendering or 32-bit textures. We actually support both so we have 32-bit textures and 32-bit rendering in most of our games. And what you'll notice, for example in Hostile Waters the best thing to look for is the sky. With 16-bit textures you'll see slight transitions between the colors on the sky textures. With 32-bit it is 'smooth'. It is absolutely crystal clear and it has very fine detail.
What I can tell you is that if the card supports 32-bit mode and if you switch from 16 to 32-bit the color difference is just gorgeous. You just don't see that range of colors with 16-bit rendering.
- PlayDevil.com: Another Exclusive for PlayDevil.com. We also recieved 4 extremely good looking and totally new screenshots from Incoming Forces (Incoming 2). Thanks Julian from Rage for sending them!

- PlayDevil.com: nVidia recently announced the industry's first Graphics Processing Unit, the Ge-Force 256. What do you think personally about this new powerful card?
Julian: Haven't seen it in action and we always reserve judgment until we got a card in the machine and we are playing with it and using it. When we say a card is 'good', it is good because we have tested it with our games.
- PlayDevil.com: The Ge-Force 256 will also make use of Transform and Lighting, a much higher fillrate, DX TC, Directx 7.0 and many other features. Rage Software will probably follow these new technologies right?
Julian: We follow it very very carefully. Anything that can make our lives easier and make our games quicker we look at doing, for example the advanced features of K7 on 3DNOW!, the advanced instructions sets by Intel. Anything that will make our games look better and play faster, we support. You're right, it is no secret that we are 'hardware hands'. We just love new technologies but we make sure that we also work on lower cards like 3dfx Voodoo 1, Ati Rage Pro, ... As long as our games work on those cards we are happy because we want our games to be accessible to everyone.
- PlayDevil.com: To end this Hot 'n Spicy Interview with Rage's Product Manager, Julian Widdows, we recieved another set (3) of exclusive screenshots, this time it is from Rage's upcoming driving game, Offroad.
- PlayDevil.com: Ok, that's about it, Julian. Thanks a lot for this hot 'n spicy Interview!
Julian: No problem at all. If you have questions about something specific, feel free to contact me.
We hope that this interview with Rage's Product Manager, Julian Widdows will give you a brighter look on their new football game, International Football 2000 and also on their upcoming games like Hostile Waters, .... We are also delighted that we could deliver you a whole set of EXCLUSIVE screenshots of several upcoming Rage games. PlayDevil.com will of course do its best to inform you on Rage's upcoming games with previews, reviews and perhaps new interviews and exclusive screenshots!
