3D Prophet SDR and DDR comparison - Page 2
Guillemot to Hercules?
Now that the french hardware manufacturer, Guillemot, has bought the entire 'Hercules' company and logo's, it was quite evident that they would use the same logo's and brand name for their new graphic cards.
From now on, when Guillemot release a new graphic card and its accessories, it will be released under the "Hercules" brand name. That is quite a smart move because Hercules, a graphic card company that started way back in the eighties has always been around and more importantly, Hercules was always recognized for their 'we'll push its limits'-graphic cards and other accessories. And also for their excellent technical support.
So we all know now that Guillemot will continue to release graphic cards under their Hercules brand name and that the sound departement will still be released under the Guillemot brand name. It is absolutely no suprise to us that, Guillemot, once a small company way back in the nineties, now has become a true gigant with 3 brand names, "Guillemot", "Hercules" and "Thrustmaster". In the future we expect that this company will grow even more and if they are still on the same level like they are now, they will certainly make sure that they are known in every departement. And we are not only speaking of graphic, sound and game devices.
Now that you have a short description of what this company stands for, lets get back to our comparison with "What's in the Box".
What's in the Box?
Here are the goods that were included in the box (same for SDR and DDR version of the card):
- The 3D Prophet (SDR or DDR)
- A multilanguage manual
- Installation Cd-rom with drivers and manual
- Several demo's of games from Ubi Soft
- Animations provided by Nvidia
- The sofware DVD program, PowerDVD (or Xing DVD Player with SDR)
To make this page a bit more prettier, here are the box-images of the 2 graphic cards:
You can see that Hercules used very attractive boxes displaying the well known 'devil hand' with the 4 earth-elements (water, air, ground and fire). I must admit it certainly would get my attention if I should see it in my local software/hardware shop. On the backside of the boxes, you can notice the 'usual' information regarding the "Geforce256 GPU", its features and of course what the chip is capable of doing. Naturally other information like support for AGP 2X/4X, DVI and TV support is well explained as well.
But a nice box doesn't mean that the card gives you a decent performance boost. No sir, that's why I decided to go a bit more in-depth on the next page.
