A little Introduction

Lara Croft has become one of the most well know names in the gaming industry.
From her debut on the PC with "Tomb Raider", she captivated a vast amount of players. Not only was she unique in the way that she was one of the first female adventurers of her kind, but she also provided a certain kind of, ahem, eye candy. The game itself was awesome with its advanced level design and unique gaming experience, which led to its popularity.
Eidos, its publisher, came out with 3 more games for the PC alone, spawning Tomb Raider onto the Playstation as well.

As though that weren't enough, Lara hosted a slew of ads for other companies like car makers and clothing designers. Lara became a media icon in a short period of about 5 years. Her latest release is Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation.

The Manual

The manual was the same as it was in all the other games.
It gave a brief history on Lara and it explained the basics of installation, controls, and the basics on movement and weaponry.

The Story

While Tomb Raiding, Lara inadvertently sets an evil Egyptian god named Set free.
When Set reverts to his old evil ways, and tries to destroy the world as we know it, Lara (you) must race against time and the forces of darkness to stop Set and save mankind.

Work-out!

Instead of the traditional training level in Lara's mansion and the property surrounding it, you get a level that introduces Von Croy, Lara's former mentor, young Lara, and the controls.
It sets up the story line between Lara and Von Croy, while showing you the basics. The level was well done, and included a race between Lara and Croy.
It helps experienced gamers brush up on their skills, or new Raiders learn the basics.

General Setting

In Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation, Lara Croft is back with a brand new adventure that takes place in Egypt, going from Alexandria to the Great Pyramids and the Sphinx.
Core Design, the developer, did a beautiful job on the level design.
The levels were extremely complex, and yet they were immense. The tombs and pyramids had hieroglyphs on the walls, the caves look great, and the abandoned cities look like abandoned cities.

Lara's Weapons

The addition of new weapons was nice, but not amazing.
Lara, as usual, starts off with her classic 9mm handguns. Throughout the game you find ammo, and new weapons.
Of course, you get the all purpose shotgun, though this time it come packing the ability to use 2 kinds of ammo, regular and wideshot.
Regular is the basic type that deals a good amount of damage at close range, and only a fool would use at long range. The wideshot does less damage but can hurt more than one enemy at a time.
Next comes the crossbow, which packs regular arrows, poison arrows, and explosive arrows. While regular and explosive are self explanatory, the poison does not 'poison' the enemy, (I waited a long time for the assassin to keel over, and nothing happened) it simply deals more damage than regular does.
After that, comes the grenade launcher which carries grenades (duh), super grenades, and flash grenades. Super grenades explode into fragments of little explosive canisters, providing a destructive light show.
Finally, there is a Colt (revolver). It packs one helluva punch. It only has normal ammo, but that's just about all you need.

Along with these weapons, there comes the laser sight, which allows you to pick off enemies at great distances. You can only combine it with the Colt and the Crossbow.

The Enemies, smart or ...?

The enemies in TRL were nothing to brag about.
Though they offered somewhat of a challenge, they had very little intelligence.
They followed an obvious pattern of attack: they circle around, shoot at you, and charge at you. They get to be too predictable.
The only thing that kept them appetizing was the different types of villain, and they strategic placement through the game, that blended well with the story line. Even so, there are very few combat scenes.

If you are looking for a shooter/adventurer game, this game may fall short of your expectations.
Not everything about the enemies was bad though. Core came up with a creative list of baddies the slow down Lara.
My favorites included the giant scorpions, the plagues of locusts and scarabs (very biblical), and the Arabian assassins.
Later on in the game, enemies will pose less and less of a threat when you get more powerful weapons.
