Redline Racer
Page 2

Sweet 3D Graphics?

Graphics in Redline Racer are simply amazing. As I read somewhere, the motorcycles are composed of 1500 polygons each! With the rider and bike together this exceeds the 3000 polygons and that makes this game so brilliantly gorgeous if you know that most racing games just have around 400 polygons.
I bet, even with a minimum of a P166 with 3D-acceleration, that RedLine Racer is a beauty!

The scenery is beautiful (one of the best I have ever seen in racing games) and the objects are extremely well animated. Don't worry about those Frame Rates (fps)- because it can exceed 60 fps!!) Even when there is a lot of action going on, you won't even notice any slow motion. One hundred % guaranteed.
There are some quite nice special effects included aswell. Skid marks, lens flares, flying objects, smoke, snow falling and more.

Another beauty in this game is that RR is fully optimized for AGP and does have support for the new Intel 740 chip. It also has "Force Feedback" support which can be pretty amusing if you have such a steering wheel that supports that. Even for gamers which have another soundcard in their machine that enables the A3D sound, the fun can't be stopped. A3D sound makes that you, the gamer, really are in the game. A3D is almost the same as Dolby Surround. Hear the sound from particular spaces in your room.

Tracks and Bikeviews

Redline Racer has about 10 tracks (including 2 secret ones). It has 6 unique scenery environments from an alpine track and the desert to the beach or to the English countryside.
Some are extremely hard and it will take you some restarts if you want to finish first. But hey, like we care about restarts. Improving our time and position is what we need.
The game also features different bikeviews. From a far ahead view till on the road. A pity that it does not have an in-cockpit view like most of the motorcycle games. Still, playing with a view on the road is the most impressive one. The speed is pretty fast and this is the viewmode where your adrenalin will pump itselfs over the top.

Female bikers are not left out in this motorcycle game. If you rather wanna ride with a gorgeous wild :-) female or you are more the hard 'n heavy male biker, no problem, RedLine Racer has about 16 fully animated Male and Female characters.
Choosing from one of the 8 superbikes available is not exactly easy. Each bike is different. Some have more points in acceleration, others in speed and grip. It all depends what YOU really want. A fast machine with an average acceleration but a very bad grip or a not so fast bike but with the best acceleration and excellent grip. The choice is yours.

What about the Music and Sound effects?

This motorcycle game has about 4 audio tracks, which ain't much, but they are all techno based and it's certainly a good music choice.
The sound effects could have been better. There are some pretty good sounds but the bike's engine sound and the sound of your biker when he crashes could annoy you on a later stage in this game. The engine sound is too sharp and doesn't quite let you believe that you are actually racing. It has more the sound of a 50 or 250 cc bike.
Other then that, sounds are decent enough to pass my critism.

Online tracks and bikes?

Yes. New MotorCycles and Characters will be available for you to download from Ubisoft's website. Like the support for the big selling game, "POD", Ubisoft will put new bikes and characters available for you. And, it is completely free!
Obviously, you will need a special patch program for installing those add-ons which was also the case in POD. This great enhancements for RedLine Racer's retail game makes the replay value awesome. No more playing with the same bikes and characters over and over like in most common racing-games.
I personally think that other game-companies should follow Ubisoft's creative support because it is extremely usefull in replay value for the end user which is basically the gamer here. That is mostly the problem in racing games, that you won't race with the same bikes for a million times.

You want new stuff and that is exactly what Ubisoft understand under the meaning of 'game support'. Great.
Don't mail me when it shall be available, perhaps it already is. I don't have a clue if it's already available for the public, but it shall be soon because the game is only out NOW in Europe. Just wait until it is world-wide spread.

Multiplayer Racing?

Multiplayer in UbiSoft's games is always stable. With RedLine Racer, you have several modes which you can choose from. Serial, Modem, Lan/Ipx and Tcp/Ip support is fully supported. RR supports up to 8 players.
Setup a multiplayer game is as easy as it could be and in a few seconds you are up and racing your brains out. Ain't that great? Oh yeah, there is also a Multiplayer reverse mode which I think can only be accessed secretly.

Conclusion

RedLine Racer, published by Ubisoft and created by Criterion Studios is one of the best motorcycle games that your money can buy at this moment.
It features excellent high detailed 3D graphics with a very decent framerate that can sometimes exceeds the 60 fps!

The gameplay and its replay value scores pretty good comparing to other previous motorcycle games.
It almost give you the feeling that you are playing a game that is directly converted from the Arcades. It features nice tracks with excellent music and sound effects. The adrenaline is really pumping up then.
A great motorcycle game wich can be placed at the same spot where Delphine's Moto Racer is at.

An 'awesome' 3D-arcade racing game.
