A new RPG?

We all know that the game industry does not make many RPG games. They are mostly concerned about releasing big budget titles that makes them a lot of money, right? Or not?
Anyway, with the new titles that are being released these days, it is hard to tell whether a game was made for fun or just for making a lot of money. Of course it's normal that they (the developers and publishers) want to make millions of dollars, but sometimes it can get out of control.
Most of the titles that we know are primarily based on gore, kill a lot of baddies at the same time, impressive effects and more of that stuff. But where is the originality? Making or better cloning a game from another successful game isn't that hard. You just throw in some exciting graphics, impressive weapons and horrible monsters. No plot, no originality ... just put your brain on level 0 and start playing.

Now, there has been some magnificent games where you really had to think twice before you act and right now, I was pleased when I got this title in my bare hands.

Russians?

This new game is published by Microïds in Europe and was semi developed by Monolith. Don't be surprised when I tell you that this game was actually made by Russians.
It is called 'Allods: Sealed Mystery' and was mainly created by Buka Entertainment and Nival Entertainment.
So, how did it end up in the rest of the world? Well, Monolith Productions, now very well known for their excellent games like Shogo: MAD, Blood 2 and Get Medieval, has took the time for releasing this Russian game to the English crowd. They also changed its name to Rage Of Mages, which is probably a better choice then Allods (no offence).

So what is Rage of Mages exactly? Well, the story takes places in a fantasy world of magic where the total civilization was smashed into little small nations during a massive disaster of nature. Two of the world's best mages were able to protect a small piece island named Allod.

Many centuries later the people of Allod are looking to the legends of a lost third Allod. They are hoping to find a weapon that might secure their victory.
So you, playing the role of a mage or a fighter, you are sent to this missing Allod to discover its secrets. During your several missions you will get help from other heroes and together you will fight dragons, ogres and other bad asses in your quest across the Allod of Uimoir. Good luck.

Rage of Mages is a game where 2 different popular game types are used. We have the RPG (Role Playing Game) and the RTS (Real Time Strategy). When these 2 are combined with success you will have a cool game that features the best of both types. But, first of all, lets see how smooth the installation went.

Installation!

Rage of Mage's installation program responded flawlessly. There are just 2 install types included which is not much but fortunately this game does not eat a lot of megabytes.
The minimum amount is just 89 Mb and the maximum will eat around 184 Mb. I think that every gamer will be satisfied when they install this game completely and still have much MegaBytes free for installing another game.

After its installation I was ready to begin my quest in Rage of Mages. Seeing the Microïds and Monolith introduction screen I moved a bit closer to my screen for watching Roms intro. And it was a quite good experience too. A intro that was pretty good in quality. I noticed some pixels but it didn't annoyed me at all. The voices, music and sounds were all great.
