A little Introduction

In Rally Championship, also known as Rally Championship 2000, you are one of the 90 competitors in the Mobil 1 British Rally Championship.
You get to race in six championship rallies which take you to Scotland, Wales, England, the Isle of Man and Ireland.

The Manual

The manual of this game is very neat and easy to use.
In 68 pages you know everything there is to know about Rally Championship. It shows you how to take a quick start, but also clarifies how you could run a total season in simulation or arcade mode.
In four appendices Europress shows you what cars feature in Rally Championship. They tell you everything there is to know about the different rallies in the Mobil 1 championship and they give you an insight on some basic driving techniques.

The manual is closed with a short historic overview of the Mobil 1 British Championship.

Please, let me drive!

After hearing all the positive rumours about Rally Championship, the first thing you want to do after installing the game is RACE!!!.
Stunning graphics, realistic stages of a realistic duration and a wide variety of cars are incentives no simlover will resist.
Installing the game is very easy. The only thing one has to bear in mind is the fact that this game as some serious requirements.

We're not necessarily talking about the minimum requirements, but about the recommended ones. Europress is suggesting to use a PIII with 500 MHz and some 128 Mb RAM. In our opinion you will be needing theses beauties to use all the graphical force of this game.

When you choose to go for a quick start, you will be at the start of the Vauxhall Rally of Wales.
A rally with a wide variety of stages. You will start in sunny conditions on a gravel stage but from the fourth stage onwards you will be in the mountainsection where you will be facing some bad weather.
Snowy roads with traitorous icy patches, heavy snowfall during night stages and a practically incontrollable car will be the problems you have to deal with. Being a rookie this isn't at all easy.

At first you can make your choice between the so called kit cars.
These are two wheel drive cars used in the real Mobil 1 British Championship. You can go for a Ford Puma, a Nissan Micra Maxi in the little A5 category, or you can opt for a Skoda Felicia, a Proton Compact, a Honda Civic, a Citroën Saxo or a Peugeot 106 Maxi in the A6 category.
The big guns will undoubtedly choose one of the real powerful A7 cars like the Nissan Almera, the Ford Escort RS2000, the Skoda Octavia, the Ford Escort Maxi, the Vauxhall Astra, the Hyundai Coupé Evo II, the VW Golf, the Renault Mégane or the Seat Ibiza Cupra.

Who is looking for a WRC (World Rally Championship) car in this phase of his career will be disappointed. The A8 or WRC cars, all 4x4, can not be used unless you win the Mobil 1 Championship or the Arcade Mode championship.
After winning the championship you can also race in a Mitsubishi Evo IV, a Proton Wira, a Seat Cordoba WRC, a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo V, a Subaru Impreza WRC or a Peugeot 206 WRC.

Being modest!

We decided to have a go at the first stage with a tiny Citroën Saxo.
A very nimble little rally car that handles very good. A perfect car to discover Rally Championship.
The first thing that attracts your attention at the start of a rallystage is the sound of your engine. It sounds very realistic and makes you eager to put the pedal to the metal. After the countdown by your co-pilot (Derek Ringer or Claire Mole if you prefer a feminine partner) you can do just that. Our first bit of advice: be careful with applying the throttle to brusque because you will end up on your roof with four wheels in the air.

The side of the ideal lines through the very narrow roads of the Mobil 1 British Rally Championship can be very traitorous. It makes your car jump rather wildly. You have to be cautious all the time and you have to handle the throttle and the brakes with care. After some miles you are beginning to get the hang of it and you can start enjoying the graphics of Rally Championship.
These graphics are something special. Magnetic Fields used a lot of in-car camera footage and digitalised it, to create very realistic stages.
That's why the stages are longer then in Colin McRae Rally. The graphical beauty of Rally Championship is quiet impressing. Especially the way the sun shines through the trees is very nice. You actually get the feeling that you are really driving through the woods.
