A little Introduction

The most revolutionary action/strategy game of its kind.
Nothing comes closer to offering an exciting combination of strategy, team-building, realistic three-dimensional graphics and true-to-life special forces action.

The ultimate goal is to save yourself and the world from deadly terroists.
You must successfully complete 17 unique missions.
If you die, the game isn't over. The 'World' Is.

The Manual

Tom Clancy's Rainbox Six manual is probably One of the best manuals I have seen in months.
It's about 73 pages thick and it's all written in English. No foreign languages included.
There is a very good index that really gives you a whole look of the manual. Everything from a Quick Start, Game Menus, Planning Phase till the Multiplayer mode is well explained. And most importantly, it can be understand quite easily.
However, if you compare the amount of plain text with the amount of screenshots that are present, you will notice that there aren't a lot shots available. When you see one, it isn't in color.
Besides those little things, it's a very good manual. And, you really have to read it before you play it because it has some very interesting information concerning the several aspects of the game.

Tom Clancy, who?

Well to tell you the truth, when I got this game I really didn't knew who Tom Clancy really was! Yeah, no kidding! Shame on me some would say and they are absolutely right.
Perhaps Clancy is more known outside Europe because I asked around a bit and there weren't many people that actually know this guy. Now I do know him because I did some research. :)
Anyway, in the very near future there will be some new games being released from Tom Clancy's work. I'm talking about Ruthless.com and some others which at this moment, I don't really remember.
Damn! :) But this isn't a review about Tom Clancy! No, its about his new game called 'Rainbow Six'.

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six is developed by Red Storm Entertainment and published in Europe by Take2 Interactive Software. Ok, lets get started.

Rainbow Six offers 3 different installation methods. First we have the Standard mode (also known as 'Minimum') which is essential if you want to play the game. If you select this one, 100 mb will be installed onto your harddisk.
Next is the Typical mode. This one will approximately install 375 mb. That's all the game data except the video files.
The third and last one is the Full mode. This type will install ... everything (data and video) and will take about 425 mb.
It really depends on how fast your computer is and how much hd space you have free. If you have a low-end machine and a lousy Cd-rom drive, I advise you to install everything. However, if you are one of those lucky sons of ... with one of those fast supercomputers ... 100 mb will be just fine.

So, what kind of game is Rainbow Six exactly?

Well, 'Rainbow Six' is in fact a secret anti-terrorist organisation. They are wanted everywhere and they are also known for bringing a mission to a good end. You are the main leader in the group and you will have to succeed in every mission, from rescuing the ambassador to hostages or taking out a terrorist leader.

The intro of Rainbow Six is good but very grainy. A bit too grainy if you ask me. It's like it was ported from a console version. But ... as you take a closer took you will see that the people in the intro aren't real people. The intro movie is in fact a video from the game engine which was taken from the included missions.
It might be grainy but it certainly helps creating the atmosphere around the game.

In the single player mode there are several steps that you must complete before you can play a mission. First you will see the very good briefing. This will give you some background information on the terrorists or organizations that are present in the next mission.
Next, which is the most important issue of all is selecting your teammates. Every member has its own statistics and you decide who you want in your team. Its really important that you listen very carefully to the briefing because otherwise you will not know what kind of mission it is. What I mean is the following.

The Rainbow members are splitted into 4 areas of expertise. You have Assault, Recon, Demolition and Electronics specialists. You don't select a Electronics guy if you won't use him. You better pick an Assault specialist if you need to rescue some hostages.
Some scenarios will need all sort of specialists while others might just require Assault specialists. You can select up to 8 members on any mission. After that, you will need to equip them with the appropriate materials such as guns, armor and misc utils.
Rainbow Six does offer alot of different guns, armor and tools. You have 4 slots available where you can put weapons and/or tools. The primary and secondary are just used for equipping guns while the slot 1 and 2 is used for tools such as an Electronics Kit, Flashbangs, Frag Grenades and ... It's good to know that they are all being used in real anti-terrorist-life and that is just the thing that will pump up your adrenaline to a higher extent.

Next you will have to put your members into 'squads'. You have four squads at your command which represents a different color, like Blue Team, Red Team, etc ... Only 4 members can be added to each squad but you can also put 2 in the first squad, 1 in the next and the rest in the last squad.
