A little Introduction

Drivers wanted!!
Worldclass race teams are looking for new drivers who would like to Battle the TransAtlantic Speed League which is the fastest and most talented RaceChampionship that sometime made the roads of this planet unsafe.
Adrenaline Junkies, Selfish Masochists and Psychic Mentals must certainly apply.

Are you ready for the future of High Velocity Entertainment?
Lets see.

The Manual

The manual is written in 2 languages, Dutch and French. It contains lots of useful information about every basic command that this game have. Also if you experience problems while running it, there are a lot of solutions included.
Multiplayer and Controls are well explained and some driving techniques are also included.
A standard manual, good.

High Veloctiy Entertainment

Motorhead: High Velocity Entertainment. Something to do with Motorcycles you might think. Well not exactly.
When I first heard that name I thought the same but this game is basically a high speed futuristic car racing game. Motorhead is published by Gremlin Interactive, a company that already have published a lot of excellent games and it was developed by Digital Illusions. Now lets review this baby.

Like I already mentioned, the game take place in the near future and all the action takes place at the six venues of the TransAtlantic Speed League.
The installation is smooth like always, no problems whatsoever. The intro of a racing game has to be fast with lots of different camera angles that are following an awesome good looking car, showing off with its capabilities. This also apply's for Motorheads intro. It looks good and there might be a 'Wow' coming out but personally I found it a bit too pixelated. It could have been a lot better if they would just made it interlaced.
Anyway, what am I complaining about? I better be happy instead that there is an intro here because on most moto or car racing games you can forget about cinematics. After all, don't we love those intros, even if it is only for a a few seconds.

Being an inductee

When you run the game, you will see that there are several options to choose from. Motorhead is a real arcade game and you can see that cleary. There aren't many options included for tuning your game but it has the basic options that are really needed.
For racing, you have the basic things. Play in 1 player mode, Multiplayer mode, change your options or vieuw the credits.
In 1 player mode you can choose between 5 race modes. Either you just want to play a quick race, a single race, a league, ghost or perhaps you want to race in time trial mode. It is all up to you! I think that every race mode explain itself. I'll explain the Multiplayer mode at the end of this review, like always ;).

At the start you can only choose between 3 cars and 2 tracks. Not much indeed. If you want to have more cars and tracks available you will have to enter the 'League Race' mode. The more points you have, the higher you go up into a new division. And a new division means new cars and tracks.

This mode may be easy in the beginning but I can guarantee you that after a few leagues it will become very hard to compete with the other cars that are controlled by the computer.
I'll explain a bit more on this AI. I read on Gremlin's site that the AI (which stands for Artificial Intelligence) and I quote: "..., the most impressive thing about this game is the AI. Unlike traditional racing games, there are no fixed paths or static patterns in the Motorhead engine". That is completely true and it is also its big bug. Why? Well, I got the best car (by cheating ;)). The best acceleration, the best handling on the road, to make it short ... a car that you can't beat!
I was surprised that the computer beated my ass at the beginning of the race. Hmmm, were there other cars that had even better acceleration that mine? I don't think so. While I was racing and took; guess accidently, the number 1 place, the computer beated be again, now in speed. There might be a lot of skidmarks caused by your car ... you won't find any caused by any computer controlled car.
After a while this might become a bit irritating because it's like Mission Impossible you play. Perhaps a good challenge for some time, after that ...
Motorhead's collisions are also a bit of a big laugh. Not only can you continue racing after you collide with an other car at 280 km/h or smashed into a wall. Where's the realism in this arcade game? There is none if you ask me.
