A little Introduction

As a Special Agent for ULTRA (Universal Tactical Response Agency), you take control of covert military campaigns.
Managing your allies' war machine, you must protect territories, defeat dictators and defend against sinister forces.

Your finger's on the button - literally!

The Manual!

This latest game from Psygnosis comes with a nice good looking big sized manual. Other versions may have a CD insert manual which isn't very handy.
I still remember some games which had such a CD insert manual and it can be very frustrating when you want it but you can't get it out of the cd case because those nasty little plastic things are blocking its way.

After reading it I can only say that it does contain good information that will help you in any way but it could have been better.
There are some screenshots included, however no in-game shots but just dumb ones from your captains and colonels. Argh, like we care :-).
There's a good presentation of the several offensive, defensive and pickup weapons but you still have to look in the manual when you play this game. Why? Well because those weapon icons are very confusing. The only icon I could identify right away was that nulcear one :-)

This manual isn't too bad but more tactical information and more 'how-to ...' would certainly be appreciated

Domination!

Global Domination.
That's the title of Psygnosis latest game that hits the shelves. Psygnosis, an UK based developing company is of course well known to all of us.
They have created some really good titles, for PC and for the console platform like the Lemmings series (oh god a very simple but addictive game), the crash-it-all game Destruction Derby I and II, Estatica II and lots of others.
It has been a bit silent around Psygnosis lately but now they are back with some gorgeous titles.
First there is O.D.T. A pretty weird abbreviation that stands for 'Or Die Trying'. We've this strange named title but we're not sure yet if we'll do a review. Anyway, we'll see.
Next there is "Lander", which will be also released on DVD. This game has all the ingredients of a true Sci-fi shooter and it looks very, very sweet.
There's also the new released Tellurian Defence but one of their most praised titles is of course Drakan: Order of the Flame. If the gameplay is right, this game gonna be a huge success.
So, you might think that Psygnosis never releases bad crappy games, right? Well, WRONG because recently they have released Global Domination, a game where you have to defend your country and well, nuke the rest. And was it good? Well, not exactly!

Only 300kb??

One of things that Global Domination really shines in is its installation mode. When I ran the install program there wasn't an option included where you could customize the amount of MB.
Damn, I said to myself, this is another 300-400 Megabyte-eating game but I decided to proceed. The installation lasted approximately 5 seconds. No kiddin'. Wow, I was impressed. A game that just needs 300Kb is very rare these days.
So, I was really happy at that time ... but that was about to change, really fast.

After that the setup program did its job, properly, I double clicked the GD-icon and the game began loading.
The FMV that was coming at my way was really good stuff. There weren't too much pixels and on my 6-speed Cd-Rom drive it didn't ran jerky at all.
It's a very decent presentation on what is comin' up next and even if you haven't read its manual, you just have to watch its intro and you basically know what this game is about. The other FMV cutscenes are also very good. It's definitely above average and hey, those guys can really act! :-)

High-Tech Instruments of War

The main purpose or goal of Global Domination is in fact to take over the world with the help of nuclear weapons. You have to nuke other countries that are standing in your way to become 'the' global force.
This might sound very exciting and Global Domination does have some good things but well, it isn't really a game that is suitable for the majority of the gamers.

This game offers plenty of high-tech 'instruments of war'. Two different war instruments are available. Defensive and Offensive Weapons.
There are some really cool weapons that you can fire towards other countries.
Most of your offensive weapons are basically Warheads. They range from 'High Explosive' Warhead to a Nuclear and Firestorm Warhead. Some causes minimal damage on impact while others will cause an irreparable damage like the Nuclear Warhead.
A weapon that I really liked was the 'Satellite Laster Bolt'. It's one of the most accurate weapons available and with its immense power it can strike down upon any territory.
